Teaching

I believe in Inclusive Education

Serving as a Teaching Assistant for Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in Exceptional Learners since Fall 2024 has been a meaningful opportunity for me to contribute to both teaching and learning. In this role, I support instruction, grading, and mentoring, while also gaining valuable insights into the ways cultural and linguistic diversity intersect with disability in education. I am especially grateful for the support and mentorship of my professor and advisor, Dr. Adai Tefera, and my professor, Dr. Taucia González, whose guidance continues to strengthen my development as a teacher and researcher for this class. At the same time, I learn from the diversity of experiences shared in our classroom, which continually challenges me to reflect, adapt, and expand my perspective.

This class is particularly meaningful to me because it connects directly to my research and lived experience as a mother navigating the education system in Tucson. It allows me to bridge theory and practice, bringing academic concepts into conversation with real-world challenges faced by multilingual learners and their families while strengthening my skills as an educator, researcher, and advocate.

Inclusive Teaching Vision

In my teaching, I strive to create inclusive learning environments where every student’s background and lived experience are recognized as valuable sources of knowledge. This approach reflects my broader commitment to culturally responsive and disability-inclusive education, both in the classroom and in my research. Looking ahead, I aim to expand my teaching portfolio to include courses on inclusive education, disability policy, leadership and  culturally sustaining pedagogy, connecting perspectives from Mozambique and the global South to global conversations on equity and justice in education.
