Strengthening Graduate Student Representation: A Conversation with President Suresh Garimella
Earlier this semester, I had the opportunity to meet with University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella in my capacity as President of Graduate and Professional Student Council - University of Arizona for the 2026–2027 academic year.
In addition to introducing myself, it was also an opportunity to discuss some of the priorities guiding my work as GPSC President, including strengthening communication with graduate and professional students, increasing access to resources and opportunities, strengthening student representation, increasing GPSC’s visibility and engagement, and creating more opportunities for our students and Council to connect with leadership both within and beyond the University.
I appreciated the opportunity to share my vision for GPSC and to hear President Garimella’s support for continuing to strengthen our engagement, visibility, and leadership opportunities. I have also seen this broader commitment reflected in recent university efforts, including the announcement made by President Garimella on October 5 that the University of Arizona will freeze tuition and fees for all undergraduate and graduate students for fall 2027.
My personal thanks to President Garimella and his team for their continued efforts and commitment to our university community. As GPSC President, I remain committed to building relationships, expanding opportunities, and ensuring that graduate and professional student voices are represented in the spaces where important conversations take place.
Bear Down!
